Description: Forest Encounter captures a fleeting moment in which a deer emerges from dense woodland, its reddish form partly concealed by sweeping blue branches and layers of green. Scattered yellow light draws the eye through the foliage, allowing the animal to appear gradually. Loose brushwork and overlapping marks evoke the forest's shifting rhythms, creating a sense of wonder and uncertainty at the edge of visibility.
Artist statement: I am drawn to the feeling of entering a forest and becoming aware of life beyond what I can immediately see. In Forest Encounter, I use layered colour, loose marks and interwoven branches to explore that sense of discovery. The deer sits between concealment and recognition, inviting the viewer to slow down and look again.
Rather than describing every detail, I paint the atmosphere of an encounter--the stillness, the filtered light and the quiet excitement of noticing another presence. Through this work, I reflect on how attentive looking can deepen our connection with the natural world.
