81. Silent Places

Artwork number: 81
Artist: Anastasija Komarnyckyj
Medium: Acrylic on wood
Artist statement: A childhood immersed in rural living, which incorporated bush exploration as a major pastime has translated to ongoing enquiry and inspiration of my natural surrounds.
This connection provided then, as it does now, more than a mere physical experience related to place. Landscape furnishes a safe haven in which I reflect and gain understanding: a place to restore emotional balance and inner peace.
In representing the natural environment my intention is to capture the essence of place: the mood of the day, weather conditions, aural atmosphere and, a scan of my emotional responses. When revisiting my evocative photographic images of the site at a later date, recollections of the experience arise and assist to inform the proposed artwork. "Silent places" reflects a meander through the Murchison landscape on a beautiful day. The work explores a fusion of rhythm, texture and colour: it is imbued with silence and peace.
