Artwork number: 101
Artist: Libby-Jean Muhling
Medium: Acrylic and mixed Media
Description: In this textural composition I use moulding paste in the cliffs, sky, waterfall and foreground plants. I use this as a starting medium to create movement, a natural appearance of rock crevices, then highlight and lowlight the movement with acrylic paint and glazes.
This artwork represents the high amount of rainfall of 2025 that overflowed at the beautiful 'Quinninup Fallls' in Wilyabrup W.A. It captures the power of the water and cascading movement hittting the bottom, creating sinuous shapes as it diffuses into the glassy pool of water.
The natural colours highlight our beautiful Southwest, the movement creates an atmosphere and the texture draws the viewer in.
Artist statement: I love to use acrylics and mixed mediums as an artist. I work wet on wet paint to blend and dry on dry paint to create different edges and shapes. I use different mediums to add texture, inviting the viewer to feel the painting, and glazes to soften shapes and edges creating a contrast between the two.
Our beautiful colours and scenery of Western Australia inspire me to create, pushing the boundries of colour in nature with imagination and atmosphere rather than photo realistic design.
