Artwork number: 149
Artist: Teresa Smith
Medium: Oil on canvas
Description: Gumtree overlooking a valley landscape.
Artist statement: This work is a 2026 composite of a really fantastic white gum in Kings Park right near where I live layed over a valley view I painted a while ago in NSW. I have walked in Kings Park daily for over 50 years and was so distressed last year when they took out so many Moreton Bay Figs due to fear of the shot hole borer. So, one of my next projects is a painting/drawing of a photo I took of one of those magnificent trees the day before they took it down. I watched and cried as if part of my history was cut away. It took less than a day to destroy a 100 year old tree.
