147. The Mundrabilla Tree

Artwork number: 147
Artist: Melissa St John
Medium: Biro drawing washed with tea. Gouache and Watercolour
Description: It was so windy in Mundrabilla that time but the trees there say it is 'more often than not'.
Biro, watercolour and gouache were used to portray this quirky tree across the Nullarbor. It was awash with tea and drawn on 300gsm watercolour paper.
Taken, inspired from my own photo on a road trip over East across the Nullarbor whilst enjoying the landscapes across the Plains. This creation inspired me to portray the beauty of our Aussie trees in more desolate places and admire the beauty we can find in more of the long-hauled journeys.
Remembering the long drives, open spaces and connections within our journeys.
Enjoy every moment!
Melissa
Artist statement: I am exploring biro and ink using my tree references during different personal experiences.
I like to find beauty in the arid and arid in the beauty.
My work invites the viewer to look beyond and find magick in the most ordinary things.
