Artwork number: 148
Artist: Melissa St John
Medium: Ink, watercolour and gouache
Description: A Master copy of Jean Victor Bertin's 'Landscape with a Poplar and a Willow Tree at the edge of a Pond'. A late 18th - mid 19th century French Artist. Just a gentle nod to our European Ancestors. And a wonderful way to discover the secrets of The Masters.
My version includes the solitary Poplar and a Pond; using ink, gouache and watercolour.
The Poplar holds significant spiritual meaning and symbolises transformation, remembrance and the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Physically, she acts as a filter between the water table and water vapour released into the air, allowing her to help filter and eliminate toxic particles. These wonderful trees can absorb and breakdown the groundwater pollutant, trichloroethylene (TCE) in industrial and urban areas.
This is my Ode to The Poplar!

Artist statement: I am exploring ink with watercolour whilst learning from the Masters.
I like to find beauty in all pockets of the world.
My work invites the viewer to look beyond and find magick in the most ordinary things.
