Description: This acrylic painting captures a familiar coastal scene in Dunsborough, Western Australia, where generations of children have learnt to swim while parents watch from the shore. A solitary native tree stands among the rugged coastal rocks, offering welcome shade and quietly witnessing the everyday activities unfolding around it. Seagulls rest on the sun warmed rocks, while ever changing colours of the ocean and sky create a vibrant backdrop.
Using a semi-abstract approach, I have simplified the landscape into geometric shapes of colour, exploring the contrasts between the brilliant blues and turquoise waters, the softer tones of the sky and the earthy colours of the rocky shoreline.
The tree forms the central focus, symbolising connection between nature and the local community.
Through this painting, I hope to capture not only the beauty of the Dunsborough coastline, but also a sense of place, memory and belonging associated with this much loved coastal setting.
