179. Where the River Bends

Artwork number: 179
Artist: Lindy Xue
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Description: In this painting, I use bold colour and simplified forms to express my experience of the Australian bush. Tall pink and violet trunks anchor the composition, while water, sloping ground and distant hills create depth around them. Warm yellows and oranges contrast with cooler greens and blues, capturing the intensity of light and the quiet shade beneath the trees.
Artist statement: When I spend time in the Australian bush, I am drawn to the contrast between the strength of the trees and the shifting light around them. There is a sense of stillness, but also movement in the water, branches and shadows. Painting allows me to return to that feeling.
I use bold colour and simplified forms to bring observation and imagination together. Pink and violet trunks, warm earth and cool water express how the landscape feels to me. Through visible brushwork and layered shapes, I explore the quiet pleasure of being surrounded by nature.
