About

This initiative is part of the Ludlow Tuart Forest Restoration Groups overall, volunteer driven, tuart forest recovery plan supported by Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA).

Recovery, protection and conservation of once present native plant biodiversity is vitally important if present generations are serious about conservation of forests for all values. The opportunity to recover the original plant biodiversity is fast running out.

This action is by far the most important recovery effort ever made in the remnant tall tuart forest and woodlands to restore native plant diversity in support of the threatened remnant tuart ecosystem and its dependant biodiversity now in serious decline.

Available and suitable land has been approved, and preparation for planting is well advanced thanks to enthusiastic cooperation with DBCA and our ever-enthusiastic Pat Worrell and her team of volunteers. John Forrest family have donated limestone and Matt Treasure, our extremely helpful volunteer neighbour has offered to spread and compacted pathways.

A planting list featuring once present native plants has been prepared and will form the basis for the propagation of required plants. The planting will follow around a prepared crushed limestone pathway leading to a central area set aside for a future orchidarium and herbarium. The area will support research into native plant establishment, protection, restoration, and conservation.

The companion benefits include a future seed and plant grafting material resource. A protected place to carry out research into plant propagation and seedling establishment, together with the monitoring and management of invasive species, insects and fungal pathogen threats. It will provide sanctuary, protection and food foraging opportunity for small birds and animals.

This establishment will offer a secure, safe, day visit tourism destination supporting education, employment and nurture in nature. To conservation minded individuals, corporations, developers and volunteers, this conservation investment opportunity is open and awaiting financial or in kind sponsorship to support forest conservation, carbon capture, and climate change mitigation.
