Forest Floor
$700.00
Artist: Sue Rigg
Description: In a typical forest floor along coastal areas of the South West of WA we find might readily find Tuart leaves, nuts and flower caps as well as the fallen bark and leaves of other native flora. Often the sand base is fingered with traces of mineral and other detritus.
To illustrate these characteristics, I have made hand-stitched leaves with floristry fabric and interfacing, re-enforcing each leaf with wax and floristry wire to replicate veins before painting them with acrylics in naturalistic colours. The bark and nuts are preserved in glycerine and the sand treated and applied using an impasto and acrylics mix. All features have either been mounted to suspend them slightly above the board or adhered directly to create dimension.
Overall, an interesting, albeit time rich, creative endeavour designed to please the eye.
